As you can see, the road to the beach is well-organized, with lush trees lining the sides. The entrance gate serves as the gateway to the beach. When passing through this gate, local security personnel will inquire about your destination.
The well-organized area leading to Nusa Dua Beach is called the ITDC area (Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation). ITDC is a state-owned enterprise (BUMN) that develops and manages the tourism area of Nusa Dua, Bali. It’s no wonder that upon entering this area, you’ll be treated to the beauty of lovely gardens.
Nusa Dua is also known for being the location of luxurious and grand hotels. One intriguing aspect of the ITDC area is the attention to aesthetic details, even down to common urban sights like electric poles and cables. In this area, the conventional concept of above-ground cable construction has been abandoned. You’ll notice the absence of electric poles with cables crisscrossing along the roads of Nusa Dua, Bali.
All electrical cables seem to have been strategically placed underground to avoid disrupting the arrangement of the area. While this might be common for foreign tourists who are used to not seeing electrical cables along the streets in developed countries, it is quite unusual for us locals accustomed to high poles and scattered cables. With no obstructive electric poles, the area appears neat and well-organized.
A captivating question arises when discussing the beaches in the Nusa Dua area, Bali. Can people who do not reside in the Nusa Dua area enter the beaches here? As is well-known, most beaches in the Nusa Dua area are under the management of the luxurious hotels in the vicinity. However, it’s important to note that for beaches like Mengiat, situated in the Nusa Dua area, anyone is allowed to visit.
On the way to Mengiat Beach, we observe that the road conditions are currently under repair, as are the sidewalks on both sides of the road. This video was taken on January 24, 2024. Hopefully, the road repairs will be completed soon, so that when you visit, the road conditions will be better than they are now.
Previously, the road to Mengiat Beach did have potholes. Let’s hope that in the future, this road will be more comfortable for tourists. On the road leading to Mengiat Beach, you will encounter parking attendants who will charge a parking fee for each vehicle. The fee is only Rp. 2,000 (two thousand Indonesian Rupiah) for motorcycles, while for cars, the entrance fee is Rp. 5,000 (five thousand Indonesian Rupiah), allowing you access to Mengiat Beach. If Mengiat Beach is crowded, usually cars will be parked along the entrance road.
As seen in the video, the parking gate area is already quite full of motorized vehicles. Consequently, some cars unable to find parking space have to park on the side of the road (sidewalk). At the beginning of the path to the beach, after the parking area, you will find numerous sun decks provided for visitors. This is to ensure that visitors can enjoy the beach atmosphere comfortably.
It’s worth noting that among the beaches in Bali, those in Nusa Dua, including Mengiat Beach, are renowned for their cleanliness. They are considered the cleanest among the beaches in Bali. Let’s hope that the cleanliness of this beach is maintained. Oh, by the way, the sun decks available at Mengiat Beach are provided by the beach management and not by the surrounding hotels. So, anyone visiting Mengiat Beach can use these sun deck facilities, even if they are not staying at the hotels around Mengiat Beach.
The beauty of the beaches in Nusa Dua not only attracts tourists but also serves as a magnet for those planning to get married. Especially in the morning when the beach is not too crowded, and the sky is clear, Nusa Dua Beach in Bali is often chosen as a pre-wedding photo location. You may have seen pre-wedding photos with beautiful beach backgrounds, and this might be one of those locations.
The location of Mengiat Beach is considered strategic, as the distance you need to travel is less than 40 minutes from Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, to reach this beach. Mengiat Beach is said to be the most visited beach by tourists compared to other beaches in Nusa Dua, Bali.
Besides Mengiat Beach, there are other beaches in Nusa Dua, such as Samuh Beach, Geger Beach, and Sawangan Beach. The waves at Mengiat Beach are relatively small, making it comfortable and safe for swimming. Even for children, this beach is quite friendly. You can see many children playing and swimming at the shoreline. Boats around this beach are also available for rent for tourists.
From the waves to the white sand, clear skies, sun decks, boats, and various other aspects, Mengiat Beach feels perfect. However, there’s one drawback to this beach. You cannot witness the sunset from here. Nevertheless, this beach remains a favorite destination for tourists. At Mengiat Beach, you’ll find signboards advertising various water sports activities such as parasailing, jet skiing, banana boat rides, flying fish, tubing, flyboarding, glass-bottom boat rides, snorkeling, turtle parks, sea walking, diving, traditional boat trips, coral fishing, trolling fishing, and boat trips.
However, it seems that these activities are not carried out at Mengiat Beach itself. It’s possible that these water sports activities take place on the beach adjacent to Mengiat Beach, such as Tanjung Benoa Beach in Bali. This is due to a policy at Mengiat Beach that prohibits activities involving machines. This is a joint commitment from all parties involved, including the hotels around Mengiat Beach.
This policy is in place to keep the beach free from oil pollution caused by the use of motorized vehicles. Due to its location and various policies at Mengiat Beach, it has become a comfortable destination for visitors. You can see for yourself how serene the surroundings of the beach are without being crowded with many vendors. You won’t find people offering services like massage, which is usually common on other beaches.
Mengiat Beach is situated between two luxurious hotels, Ayodya Resort and Merusaka Hotel (Inaya Putri Bali). Most visitors to Mengiat Beach are usually tourists staying at these hotels. With the complete facilities of the hotels and the beauty of Mengiat Beach, tourists find it comfortable to linger in these hotels. They only need to step out of the hotel and immediately enjoy the beauty of Mengiat Beach.
As it is located in the hotel area, a part of Mengiat Beach is managed by the respective hotel. Although Mengiat Beach is not exclusive to guests staying at the hotel, and anyone can go to the beach, the sun deck near the hotel is reserved for hotel guests. Therefore, if you use the sun deck managed by the hotel, you will be provided with a menu of food and drinks from the hotel.
Sun decks not managed by the hotel are available at the beginning of the beach access path, as mentioned earlier. In the 16th minute of this video, you get a glimpse of the atmosphere at Ayodya Resort. During the pandemic, Ayodya Resort was temporarily closed but has now reopened. If you’re planning to visit Mengiat Beach, the atmosphere at Ayodya Resort might be a reference in case you decide to stay there.
At the 18:40 minute mark, you will see the atmosphere of a restaurant. This restaurant is not part of the luxury hotels, be it Ayodya, Merusaka, or Grand Hyatt. Since it is managed independently of these hotels, the prices are relatively budget-friendly. Therefore, this restaurant can be a reference if you happen to be here and want to eat at a reasonably priced restaurant.
